About:

Kayla Bello is a second year at UF and is excited to direct a committee on Global Challenges to Peace! She is originally from Hollywood, Florida, and is majoring in Public Health and Business Administration. Her interest in international affairs, and exploring the implications of conflict inspired this committee. She hopes that during this weekend delegates will collaborate to develop solutions to this pressing global issue. Kayla had the opportunity to direct a specialized GA committee for last year’s GatorMUN, and she hopes to create another fun and educational experience for delegates. She also serves as the Under Secretary General for our collegiate conference SunMUN, and she competes with the travel team. Outside the world of Model UN, Kayla loves beach days, reading by a lake, running/working out, and going on random adventures with friends. She can’t wait to meet everyone, and have an incredible weekend in the Swamp!

Committee topic A:

Nuclear Nonproliferation

Cyber Warfare

Committee topic B:

Disarmament and International Security Committee:

Welcome to the United Nations General Assembly First Committee, also known as DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee). This year, delegates will focus on one of two critical issues: Nuclear Non-Proliferation or Cyber Warfare, both highlighting the complex interplay between state security and technological capabilities. Nuclear proliferation, the spread of nuclear weapons and technology, poses severe risks to international stability, with the accumulation of arsenals raising the potential for conflict and far-reaching consequences. Meanwhile, cyber warfare represents a significant modern threat, where anonymous cyber attacks can disrupt or destroy critical infrastructure such as power grids and financial systems, complicating attribution and increasing the risk of unintended escalation. Delegates will choose to focus on either preventing the spread of nuclear weapons or addressing the threats posed by cyber warfare. Through informed discussions and strategic negotiations, the DISEC Committee aims to develop comprehensive resolutions to mitigate these threats, ensuring a safer and more secure world for all.
