Come and Take It: The Republic of Texas, 1836-1845

About:

Tessa Jones (she/her) is a second-year majoring in History and International Studies planning to become involved in non profit work. Texas born and raised, she moved cross country to become a gator and quickly became involved with Model UN, falling in love with the freedom to be creative while problem solving. Tessa now travels as a crisis delegate and has attended 5 conferences in the past year. In addition to competing, last year she chaired for GatorMUN and served as a Crisis Coordinator for SunMUN II. This year along with her directorship role in GatorMUN, Tessa will be working as the USG of Delegate Affairs for SunMUN III. Apart from MUN, Tessa spent her summer working as a camp counselor at Camp Walt Whitman in Piermont, New Hampshire and interning remotely for the Active Learning Project, researching urban greenspace mapping, policy, and biodiversity. In her free time Tessa can most likely be found relaxing, whether it be hammocking around campus while reading and listening to dream pop or watching movies. She is ecstatic to be directing a committee for this installation of GatorMUN and is looking forward to seeing the delegates in action!

The Republic of texas, 1836-1845:

Howdy y’all, and welcome to the year 1836! The Republic of Texas has just been established as an independent country after a successful rebellion against Mexico known as the Texas Revolution. Characterized by a larger than life culture and intense regional pride, the new state must work hard to define its values while establishing legitimacy on the global stage. To accomplish this, each delegate assumes the role of an unique influential historical figure, ranging across all cultural and ethnic backgrounds within the region. In this alternate historical universe delegates are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild as they establish the political, social, and cultural groundwork for their nation before navigating internal issues and foreign affairs. The future of the Lonestar state lies in your hands!

Yeehaw, delegates!
