Directed By: Nathan Ruben & Giancarlo Lopez

About Nathan:

About Giancarlo:

Nathan Rubin (he/him) is a sophomore at the University of Miami from Naples, Florida. He is double-majoring in Ecosystem Science and Policy & Geography and Sustainable Development. An avid environmentalist, Nathan is deeply involved in glass recycling and coastal restoration research, as well as the chair of the Waste Diversion committee in UM’s student government. Nathan is also a Rachael Carson Council National Environmental Leadership Fellow. He has been doing MUN since his sophomore year of high school and staffed and competed in every style of MUN. Nathan is also the Secretary General for this year’s MDMUN! As a self-proclaimed staffing addict, Nathan has chaired/CDed over 10 committees and doesn’t plan to stop any time soon.

Outside of MUN and School, Nathan is an avid sports fan (Let’s go Heat, Yankees, Giants, and Panthers) and partakes in almost every nerdy thing imaginable (Magic the Gathering, DND, Warhammer 40K, Anime, etc). When his social battery is exhausted, Nathan can be found curled up in bed with a nice fantasy or sci-fi novel and a bottle of carbonated goodness from his SodaStream.

Nathan is super excited to chair the GADHOC for the second year in a row and even more exciting to see the adaptation and quick thinking solutions delegates bring to the table. He wants you to be sure to bring your A-game and get ready to dive in to whatever the topic may be!

Giancarlo Lopez (he/him) is a senior at the University of Miami, majoring in Political Science and History, and minoring in Psychology and Legal Studies in Business. This is his first year staffing GatorMUN but he’s an experienced chair, having staffed 8 conferences across the high school and college circuit serving in all levels of a conference from chair to Secretary-General. He’s participated in MUN since his junior year of high school and, since then, has gone on to compete in over 11 conferences and is currently serving as the head delegate of the Miami Model United Nations team! He’s chaired and directed a range of committees, including HRC GAs, Supreme Court Specs, and Bilingual Crisis Committees. He loves MUN at Miami, and the community and friendships he’s built have shaped his college experience!

Outside of MUN, he’s interned at Congressional Offices, and he works at a law firm as an intern, and has also competed in both debate and Mock Trial competitions alongside MUN competitions. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games, watching movies and TV, writing poetry, and playing pickup Basketball. As a Miami native, he’s familiar with all the great local spots and is more than happy to provide any recommendations! After graduation, he hopes to go to law school and work as a Healthcare and Administrative Lawyer thereafter.

As your Chair, he looks forward to seeing fruitful debate and how delegates tackle the unexpected. He looks forward to meeting you all at GatorMUN XXIV and hearing all your wonderful solutions.
